Most refrigerators and walk-ins seem virtually indestructible and qoute free, but you'll get longer life out of yours by following these protection and maintenance tips. Clean the door gaskets and hinges regularly. The door gaskets, made of rubber, can rot more indeed if they are caked with food or grime, which weakens their sealing properties. They can be safely cleaned with a clarification of baking soda and warm water. Hinges can be rubbed with a bit of petroleum jelly to keep them working well. Dirty coils force the refrigerator to run hotter, which shortens the life of the compressor motor. They should be cleaned every 90 days, preferably with an industrial-strength vacuum cleaner.

Walk-in floors can be damp-mopped but should never be hosed out. Too much water can get into the seals between the floor panels and damage the insulation. A refrigerator only works as well as the air that's allowed to circulate colse to its contents. Cramming food containers together so there's not a spare inch of space colse to them doesn't help. Also try to keep containers (especially cardboard ones) from touching the walls of the cabinet. They may ice and stick to the walls, damaging both goods and wall. Use a good rotation system: First in, first out (Fifo) is preferable. Or put colored dots on food packages, a distinct color for each day of the week, so everyone in your kitchen knows how long each item has been in the fridge.

A walk-in cooler is just what its name implies: a cooler big sufficient to walk into. It can be as small as a closet or as large as a good-size room, but its original purpose is to supply refrigerated storage for large quantities of food in a central area. Experts recommend that your carrying out needs a walk-in when its refrigeration needs exceed 80 cubic feet, or if you serve more than 250 meals per day. Roughly half of walk-in cooler space is aisle space. Another favorite method is to guess that, for every 28 to 30 pounds of food you'll store, you will need 1 cubic foot of space. When you get that figure, multiply it by 2.5. (The factor 2.5 means only 40 percent of your walk-in will be used as storage space; the other 60 percent is aisles and space between products.)

The result is the size of the refrigerated storage area you will need. For a walk-in freezer, naturally divide your walk-in refrigerator space by two. Larger kitchens, which serve more than 400 meals a day, may need as many as three walk-in refrigerators for distinct climatic characteristic needs: one for furnish (41 degrees Fahrenheit), one for meats and fish (33 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit), and one for dairy products (32 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit). The walk-in is used most often to store bulk foods. Because this often means wheeling carts or dollies in and out, the floor should be level with the kitchen floor.

This leveling is achieved by the use of strips (called screeds) that are applied to the floor. Coolers don't come as a particular unit; they are constructed on-site. The walls, ceilings, and floors are made of personel panels. Wall panels should be insulated to a rating of R-30, which means a 4-inch thickness. They come in assorted lengths and widths, with 12-by-12-inch projection panels at 90-degree angles. They can be as short as 71?2 feet or as tall as 131?2 feet. The most common type of insulation inside the panels is polyurethane, and the outside walls of the panels can be made of stainless steel, vinyl, or aluminum. Stainless steel is the most expensive, and aluminum-because it's the least expensive-is the most favorite choice. If the walk-in is an outdoor installation, aluminum is the most weather resistant.

The installer will be sure the unit has interior lighting. The floor panels for walk-ins are similar to the wall panels. Load capacities of 600 pounds per square foot are the norm, but if you plan to store very heavy items (like beer kegs), a reinforced floor can be purchased with a load capacity of up to 1000 pounds per square foot. The refrigeration system of a walk-in is a more complicated installation than a thorough refrigerator, primarily because it's so much bigger. The Quest for a Perfect Cup of Coffee

It is generally agreed that there are four basic elements critical to the perfect cup:

Water & Coffee Filters

Element 1. Water:
Coffee is 98% water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn’t taste good from the tap, it won’t taste any better in your coffee. That’s why Cuisinart has added a water filter to the Brew Central coffeemaker. The charcoal water filter removes chlorine, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.

Element 2. Coffee:
While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a coffee bar, you need to use the same quality beans. Buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two weeks’ supply at a time for maximum freshness. Once the coffee bean is broken, its flavor degrades very quickly. If it is not practical to buy small supplies, we recommend you separate larger amounts of beans into one to two week portions immediately after purchase, and freeze them in airtight containers. The best way to maximize freshness is to minimize exposure to air, light and moisture. So, once removed from the freezer, beans should be maintained in a sealed container at room temperature, since damaging condensation occurs every time the beans are removed from the freezer or refrigerator. Note that some coffee experts advise against freezing dark-roast beans, because freezing can cause the oils to coagulate. Other experts disagree. We suggest you experiment and decide yourself.

The Perfect Cup of Coffee

Element 3. Grind:
The grind of the coffee is critical for proper flavor extraction. If the grind is too fine, over extraction and bitterness will result. Too fine a grind may also clog the filter. If the grind is too coarse, the water will pass through too quickly and the desired flavors will not be extracted. A medium-fine grind is recommended.

Element 4. Proportion:
The cups on the Cuisinart coffeemaker measure 5 ounces. Add the amount of ground coffee that corresponds to the number of cups being brewed. Many coffee bars and the Specialty Coffee Association of America recommend adding 2 rounded tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water. Some coffee manufactures recommend using 1 tablespoon per cup. Cuisinart recommends using 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup, but use more or less to suit your taste. Note: the maximum capacity for ground coffee is 15 tablespoons for the 12-cup coffeemaker. Exceeding this amount may cause overflow if the coffee is too finely ground.

Water Reservoir: When filling the coffeemaker with water, refer to the carafe height markings and fill to the desired number of cups. Be sure to add a small amount of extra water to account for the amount of water lost in wetting the grounds and lost as steam during the brewing process.
Showerhead: Distributes water evenly over coffee, reducing temperature loss as water passes through grounds.
Water Filter: Charcoal water filter eliminates chlorine, calcium and bad tastes or odors from tap water. Cuisinart recommends changing the water filter every 60 days or 60 uses ‒ or more often if you have hard water.
Filter Basket: Holds a #4 paper filter or a permanent filter.
LCD Digital Clock: Displays the time of day and set time for automatic functions.
Function Knob and Flip Switch: Used to initiate programming of automatic functions.
The Auto On feature is used to program the start time of the brew cycle. The Auto On can be set for any time, day or night. The PM indicator is displayed on the LCD for nighttime program times. The Auto Off feature is used to shut off the coffeemaker at a preset time, anywhere from 0 to 4 hours. Note: To program the coffeemaker to shut off automatically, read the instructions included in the Instruction Manual under 'To program the Variable Auto Off'

Heater Plate Control Knob: For controlling the temperature of the coffee after brewing. There are three temperature settings high, medium and low.
1-4 Cup Setting: The 1-4 cup setting button is used when you make small amounts of coffee. Normal coffeemakers will produce a colder batch of coffee when smaller amounts are made, because the heater doesn’t have enough time to properly ‘warm up’ to heat a small amount. The 1-4 setting basically ‘double heats’ the water, making your smaller amounts as piping hot as a full pot would be. To use simply press the 1-4 button on the control panel after turning on the unit.
Retro-style flip switch is used to turn your coffeemaker on and off and works in tandem with the function knob.

Clean Setting: Tells you when it’s time to clean your coffeemaker. Remove built-up calcification from the water reservoir, to help extend the life of your coffeemaker.
Brew Pause: Stops flow of coffee from basket when carafe is removed (30 seconds max) from the heater plate, so a cup can be poured in mid-brew. Since the flavor extraction rate varies during the brew cycle, we recommend allowing the brewing cycle to finish before pouring the coffee. The coffee brewed at the beginning of the cycle has a flavor profile which is very different from the flavor at the end of the cycle. Once the coffee has finished brewing, stir it before serving to blend the flavors. The coffee at the bottom of the carafe will be somewhat stronger than the coffee at the top.
Carafe: The easy pour, no drip glass carafe has an ergonomic handle and brewed coffee markings for two to twelve cups.
Heating Plate: Scratch resistant with black, nonstick coating.
Ready Tone: Signals the end of the brew cycle with five beeps (coffee will continue to stream from the filter for a few seconds after the tone).

Critics mostly complain about its low power efficiency grade. This is largely because of its slow spinning that requires longer time to optimize spin drying. This eventually explains the added electrical consumption needed to complete the wash cycle. Its low spin speed makes it less effective in cleaning compared with other cheaper brands.

This model takes pride with its self-acting water level setting that adjusts water content inside the tub to maximize load capacity and save on detergents. It has five dispensers installed; three detergent dispensers and one for bleach and fabric conditioner each. Consumers are given Varied wash options, such as presoak/prewash, deep clean and extra rinse. However, this model is relatively more expensive that its counterparts that has more useful features. The agitating component is not well designed. In the middle of the fins and the bottom of the agitator are gaps that certainly catch small components of clothes, like buttons and strings. The top load is great for whatever who doesn't have much time; one main benefit is that it is much quicker to wash your clothes. Your cycle will ordinarily be complete much quicker than if it was done in a front load washer. Someone else main benefit is that the top load is right in front of you, and you don't have to bend down to put your clothes in. This may be ok if you're young and don't have a bad back, however a lot of older people would rather not bend over when they have the choice.

Although at this point the top load seems the way to go, like whatever there are some disadvantages. One is they use a lot of water, and we know that today this is a very vital factor. Water conservation is more foremost than ever, and if you buy a top load, forget getting any kind of rebate from the government except for the odd one or two machines new two the shop place. Someone else disadvantage is that they are hard on your clothes, from perceive I know this, I found even after a consolidate of months my t-shirts were stretched and almost ready for the gym pile. You can get top loaders without the agitator but these machines do not achieve the most wash results.

Front Load

Front load washers were in older days used heavily in commercial businesses, however now days they are smaller, more affordable and best looking, which make them a great household washer.

The front load's main benefit is the water conservaton, while the top load lacks in this category, the front load exceeds. The front load uses up to 60% less water and up to 68% less vigor than approved top loading machines, rescue you on those electricity bills. As well as the water conservation front loads are much gentler on your clothes. The main reasons for this are because they have a drum with no agitator, and your clothes will not get caught and stretch.

While front loaders hit the lead with their water conservation, they fall back again with their longer wash cycles. There are models out these days with quick wash cycles; however this is only effective with lightly soiled fabrics like sheets, as heavily soiled loads will not clean properly.

The Final Verdict

So, here is the question you have been waiting for, which one of course dominates? In my opinion, I have to lean towards the front load washer. I think water conservation is a big thing, and if everybody had a front load, a lot less water would be wasted washing clothes. This coupled with the fact that it is much gentler on my clothes, is adequate to push me over the edge. Go the front load.

So, I made a proton pack (the Ghostbuster back pack) for an 80's Halloween party. Its not the most accurate pack out there, but it cost me nearly for the pack alone. Making a proton pack is SUPER fun! Most the of parts I found from old dishwashers. The Bumper was made from the mounting legs, the Clippards from the capacitors of 3 dishwashers and 2 washing machines, the Ribbon from the dishwasher's colored wires, the Blaster Cord from the drain line (gross), the N-Filter from a refrigerator water filter, the LED's and their appropriately rated batteries from light up yo-yos, the cords from the dishwasher power line and the Crank Generator Cord from the dishwasher's fill line. The rest was card board and wood bolted on backpack. The trap is actually a clothes steamer I found at a thrift store that I painted. If you have any questions, just ask. If you're replacing an old dishwasher, then it's no problem - the space is already there. The first step is to remove the old dishwasher. Make sure to measure the old dishwasher so you can buy the right size when choosing the new one. 1. Turn the electrical circuit that supplies power to the dishwasher OFF, or if it is plugged into an outlet, unplug it. Close the water valve that supplies water to the dishwasher. 2. Unscrew the two screws holding the dishwasher to the countertop. These screws are located right in front of the dishwasher. Gently slide the dishwasher out from under the counter. 3. Follow the electrical cord to the junction box, usually on the lower rear side, and remove the cover. 4. Use a voltage tester to ensure the circuit is OFF and disconnect the wiring. Reservoir Cover: Flips back for easy filling.
Water Reservoir: When filling the coffeemaker with water, refer to the carafe height markings and fill to the desired number of cups. Be sure to add a small amount of extra water to account for the amount of water lost in wetting the grounds and lost as steam during the brewing process.
Showerhead: Distributes water evenly over coffee, reducing temperature loss as water passes through grounds.
Water Filter: Charcoal water filter eliminates chlorine, calcium and bad tastes or odors from tap water. Cuisinart recommends changing the water filter every 60 days or 60 uses ‒ or more often if you have hard water.
Filter Basket: Holds a #4 paper filter or a permanent filter.
LCD Digital Clock: Displays the time of day and set time for automatic functions.
Function Knob and Flip Switch: Used to initiate programming of automatic functions.
The Auto On feature is used to program the start time of the brew cycle. The Auto On can be set for any time, day or night. The PM indicator is displayed on the LCD for nighttime program times. The Auto Off feature is used to shut off the coffeemaker at a preset time, anywhere from 0 to 4 hours. Note: To program the coffeemaker to shut off automatically, read the instructions included in the Instruction Manual under 'To program the Variable Auto Off'

Heater Plate Control Knob: For controlling the temperature of the coffee after brewing. There are three temperature settings high, medium and low.
1-4 Cup Setting: The 1-4 cup setting button is used when you make small amounts of coffee. Normal coffeemakers will produce a colder batch of coffee when smaller amounts are made, because the heater doesn’t have enough time to properly ‘warm up’ to heat a small amount. The 1-4 setting basically ‘double heats’ the water, making your smaller amounts as piping hot as a full pot would be. To use simply press the 1-4 button on the control panel after turning on the unit.
Retro-style flip switch is used to turn your coffeemaker on and off and works in tandem with the function knob.

Clean Setting: Tells you when it’s time to clean your coffeemaker. Remove built-up calcification from the water reservoir, to help extend the life of your coffeemaker.
Brew Pause: Stops flow of coffee from basket when carafe is removed (30 seconds max) from the heater plate, so a cup can be poured in mid-brew. Since the flavor extraction rate varies during the brew cycle, we recommend allowing the brewing cycle to finish before pouring the coffee. The coffee brewed at the beginning of the cycle has a flavor profile which is very different from the flavor at the end of the cycle. Once the coffee has finished brewing, stir it before serving to blend the flavors. The coffee at the bottom of the carafe will be somewhat stronger than the coffee at the top.
Carafe: The easy pour, no drip glass carafe has an ergonomic handle and brewed coffee markings for two to twelve cups.
Heating Plate: Scratch resistant with black, nonstick coating.
Ready Tone: Signals the end of the brew cycle with five beeps (coffee will continue to stream from the filter for a few seconds after the tone).
